Let’s get this out of the way up front

The goal is greatness.

Greatness for you and for those you will lead.

At Paul Quinn College, we take people and transform them into Quinnites. Quinnites are leaders who value the harder right over the easier wrong and live to bring light to darkness and give hope to the hopeless. This journey will not be easy, it is not supposed to be! However, for those people who feel called to change the lives of others, there is no better place for you to be.

For those of you who desire greatness…

Paul Quinn College is test-optional for the 2022-2023 application cycle: Applicants may choose whether or not to submit their ACT or SAT scores. Learn more about our test-optional policy in the note below.

Holistic Admissions Review: We will practice a holistic approach to reviewing undergraduate applications. This means all parts of the application are considered when making an admissions decision, and there will not be just one reason why a student is or is not offered admission. Academic performance and potential hold significant weight during the review process. The high school transcript (rigor of curriculum, GPA, performance trends, rank in class) and non-academic engagement help us determine if you are prepared to tackle the Paul Quinn College curriculum.

RE-ADMIT STUDENTS

Some students need to separate from the College during the course of their studies. While the reasons vary, as long as a student has not been permanently dismissed, the College seeks to determine the best time and manner for a student to return to the rigors of full-time study. To that end, the Readmission Committee, which is chaired by the Office of Enrollment Management, is comprised of those offices involved in the student’s separation. This process enables all parties to be involved in determining whether the student is most fully prepared to return for that semester. A student who has discontinued study in a degree-seeking program at Paul Quinn College and is now seeking readmission must be approved by all of the following offices:

  • The Office of the Academic Affairs

  • The Office of Student Affairs

  • The Office of Student Financial Services

For readmission, please contact admissions@pqc.edu to begin the process.

Applicants who do not meet the admission criteria are still reviewed by the admissions committee and may be conditionally accepted to Paul Quinn College.

Test Optional Policy

Paul Quinn College has announced that first year admissions for 2021 will be test-optional.

Applicants who have taken the ACT and/or SAT are welcome to submit scores to supplement their applications, but scores will not be required for an application to be considered for admission review.

Historically, many applicants have submitted multiple test scores for consideration, but now, given the natural disasters and COVID-19 pandemic, students may be unable to sit for a single test. Additionally, Paul Quinn College recognizes that research has revealed inequalities in testing access and preparation, particularly for Black and Brown students, First Generation students, and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.  These challenges and inequalities have caused undue anxiety on what can already be a stressful process. We will do our part to ensure students do not fall behind in the college admissions process because of them.

For those who are unable to submit a standardized test score, a more holistic and rigorous review of high school curriculum, GPA, and class rank, when available, will be completed. There will be no additional requirements in lieu of the test score, but applicants are welcome to supplement applications with other material that best represent them. Students who do not submit scores will not be penalized--these scores are optional. Prospective student-athletes should defer to eligibility requirements issued by the NAIA.

Paul Quinn College will continue to superscore the ACT and SAT, taking into account the highest subscores from all test sittings. To help us understand a student’s situation and preference, new questions will be added to the WE Over Me Application section specific to standardized testing. Students can indicate if they will or will not be submitting test scores.

Paul Quinn College will review its policies for fall 2022 and beyond after the 2021 application cycle is completed. It has been Paul Quinn College’s practice to use standardized test scores, coupled with a review of the transcript, resume, interview, and letter of recommendation to determine an applicant’s level of preparation for the work-college program and a liberal arts inspired curriculum offered at Paul Quinn College rather than creating an unnecessarily competitive admissions practice.
