Semester Checklist

Review the following check-in requirements in order to be in good standing for each semester and review frequently asked questions.

 
 

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), protects personally identifiable information in student education records (such as the student’s name, address, financial records, and grades) from disclosure without the student’s signed, written consent, unless such consent is not required by law. Students are not required to authorize disclosure of information from their education records.

If you are the student, you can authorize Paul Quinn College to release all or specific information to individuals and/or an organization by submitting a FERPA Release Form to the Registrar at registrar@pqc.edu.

Who needs to submit an application?

All students should submit a financial aid application if they want to be considered for any federal, state or insitutional aid.

Some scholarship agencies require that you have a financial aid application on file.

I am part of the GUILD or FREE College Benefit Program

All students partiicpating in tuition-paying programs are reequired to submit a financial aid application and complete the aid process before their benefits are applied.

If you have a special situation that does not allow you to submit an application, please contact the Financial Aid Office in writing at finaid@pqc.edu

CONFIRM CLASS SCHEDULE

It is your responsibility to review your class schedule to make sure that you are in the courses that you intended to be in. Communicate any conflicts or concerns with your advisor.

Please note that students enrolled in less than 12 credits are subject to having their financial aid adjusted.

ACCEPT OR DECLINE LOANS

Review your ledger and decide if you want to accept or decline loans. Review this guide for step-by-step instructions on how to view your ledger and financial aid.

Pending financial aid is listed and factored into expected balance.

You can also contact the financial aid office if you want to accept a customized loan amount. You need to be enrolled in at least 6 credits to be eligible for a student loan for that term.

If your accepted financial aid (including any accepted loans) is not enough to cover your balance. make payment arrangements with the Business Office. You must have a balance below $1,000 in order to remain enrolled. Pending financial aid is listed and factored into expected balance. Late fees may be applied for late payments after the beginning of the semester. Housing and meal plan charges is subject to change until your assignment is finalized.

Review Document Tracking on CAMS

Some required documents will be listed on your document tracking portal on CAMS. If you have any documents listed as incomplete, follow-up with the corresponding department.

You may receive document requests via e-mail or DocuSign as well.

Review Health Insurance Policy

GUILD AND SRC/UNION STUDENTS - DISREGARD.

Paul Quinn College students who do not provide proof of their own health insurance prior to the term’s census date (posted in the Academic Calendar), each semester, will be automatically enrolled in the Paul Quinn College Student Health Insurance Plan, for which they will pay a fee. Paul Quinn College athletes must have the College’s insurance and do not have the option to waive coverage.

WHERE DO I FIND MY STUDENT ID NUMBER?

Log onto your CAMS Student Portal to view your student ID number.

How do I give permission to a parent/s, guardian or other third-party to ask about my status?

who is charged for a meal plan?

Students who are classified as on-campus commuters are billed for a meal plan. You are considered an online student only if all of your classes are 'ONL' or 'VIR' or a combination of only 'ONL' and 'VIR'. Review your schedule on your student portal to view your course schedule. Contact your academic advisor if you need to review your schedule or request changes.

Attending courses remotely does not qualify as being an online student.

If you are in fully online or virtual classes and are being charged a meal plan you do not need to notify the business office. The business office reviews the files during the first few weeks of class and updates charges accordingly.

How do I know what type of classes I am enrolled in?

Log onto your CAMS Student Portal to view your schedule.

  • VIR = Virtual course. This means you have set times via Zoom where you will be meeting.
  • ONL = Online course. This means that you have online coursework but not set class times via Zoom.
  • HYB = Hybrid. This means that the class is designed to have in-person meeting time.

You are considered an online student only if all of your classes are 'ONL' or 'VIR' or a combination of only 'ONL' and 'VIR'.

Can I waive out of the Comprehensive Health Insurance?

Paul Quinn College students who do not provide proof of their own health insurance prior to the term’s census date (posted in the Academic Calendar), each semester, will be automatically enrolled in the Paul Quinn College Student Health Insurance Plan, for which they will pay a fee. Paul Quinn College athletes must have the College’s insurance and do not have the option to waive coverage.

Anyone wishing to OPT OUT of the Comprehensive Insurance Plan MUST complete and submit an accepted waiver by providing proof of insurance by the Census date of the term.

  • With an approved waiver, you will only be billed for the MANDATORY TigerCare Health Services Plan.
  • Without an approved waiver, you will be billed for the MANDATORY TigerCare Health Services Plan AND the Comprehensive Health Plan.

  • Under “Please Sign in,” enter your PQC email address (example: quinnite123@pqc.edu
  • On the next line enter your student id # for the password (example: A0000123456)
  • Click the “Submit” button
  • Follow the on-screen instructions from there. You will need to enter your current primary insurance coverage details.

Paul Quinn College athletes must have the College’s insurance and do not have the option to waive coverage.

What is the technology fee? I don't use a PQC laptop.

The purpose of the technology fee is to maintain current and install new emerging technologies to improve student learning results. The fee includes but is not limited to distance learning software/hardware, licensing, and maintenance of student information systems such as CAMS and Canvas, technology infrastructure and maintenance, electronic database/media, learning content, and technology and personnel to facilitate student communication and learning. The technology fee is mandatory, and all students (online, on or off-campus) are charged a one-time, non-refundable fee of $1,000.00 per term.

How do I accept or decline student loans?

Review this document for detailed instructions or log onto your CAMS portal and go to the Financial Aid tab. You must select accept or decline for all terms in order for the loans to be processed.

You will need to have a completed Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling for undegraduates via studentaid.gov and accepted/declined all loans on your CAMS portal.

I am expecting a refund, when do I receive it?

Refunds are not processed until at least a week after Census date which is the 12th day of instruction. Refunds take a few business days to process so the first refunds may be issued around the third week of instruction. You must have a complete financial aid file in order for your financial aid to post.

How do I change my major?

Contact your academic advisor advisor for major change requests.

I am a Veteran or dependent of a Veteran and have education benefits. Do I need to do something?

Yes. The requirements depend on whether or not you have used benefits before. Students must submit a VBRF for each semester that they want to be certified for.

Can I apply for more scholarships?

Yes! We encourage students to apply for scholarships. The financial aid office will send at least 1 email per month with opportunities from Paul Quinn or partners/outside agencies. We also encourage you to fill out this scholarship interest form which is saved in the event that opportunities open up from agencies. This will be used to help identify you for future opportunities.

I was placed in the Work Program, where do I see my award?

The Work Program will communicate placements with the financial aid office in order to award your corresponding work program scholarship. Stipends will be processed through Payroll, not financial aid.

I am a GUILD Student, why do I see a balance?

If you are in a full-payment employer program, your benefit will be applied closer to enrollment being finalized. You may see a temporaty balance but you do not need to notify us as we have a process in place to update awards.

I am a Union Student, what is my status?

You will receive communication regarding your status. Continuing students (enrolled prior to Fall 2022) will continue to see a benefit applied as long as they are in good academic standing.

Newly admitted Fall 2022 students have been identified as eligible.

Admitted students prior to Fall 2022 who did not enroll may not qualify for full payment and will be notfied.
