Must be a high school senior, planning to attend an accredited college or university, a current student, or a post-graduate student attending an accredited college or university.
Minimum 2.75 GPA or above.
Participated in or exhibited leadership in scholastic, athletic, and/or community activities.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must submit a completed application and essay by the deadline. Incomplete applications or nominations will not be accepted.
Typed essay (not to exceed 300 words: "What is your greatest achievement and how have your accomplishment prepared you for your future?"
Official school academic transcript or equivalent.
Letter of acceptance from college or university or proof of enrollment.
List and describe your participation or exhibited leadership in scholastic, athletic, and/or community activity
The scholarship is open to any current high school senior, college student, or graduate student who is a legal resident of the United States, residing in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia, and who is enrolled in a two to a five-year post-secondary institution or vocational program for the 2023 Spring Semester.
The candidate must submit a 750-1,000 word essay response to the prompt: Write about a time that you helped another person, whether it was a friend, family member, or total stranger. How did this experience impact your life and change how you show compassion and generosity to others? What are ways that we, as a community, can be better at helping those in need?
The candidate must submit a professional resumé that lists their experience, both professional and academic.
The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, as well as the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students must also submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.
Open to Students planning to complete their degree or program by the end of Spring 2023 semester.
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and The Sallie Mae Fund are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding students attending an accredited post-secondary institutionopens in a new window. Two Hundred and Sixty students completing a two-year, four-year, or trade/vocational certificate/certification program will be selected to receive a gap scholarship $2,500 for the 2022 – 2023 academic school year. Selected students must be in good academic standing, but at risk of not returning to or graduating/ completing due to an outstanding financial need, and/or emergency situation that leads to a financial aid crisis.
This application opens July 4, 2022 and closes May 31st, 2023 (12 PM EST) or until funds are exhausted.
